I promised some more pics from her birthday and here they are.
Our friends, Ed and Alex, from London, came to visit us recently. We really wanted to take them to see the Berg while they were here. We went away for 3 days and loved every minute of it. It’s the longest we’ve been away from Freya but it was a good break for us too.
While we were there, we went on a walk and came across this beautiful natural pool with a small waterfall. Sheldon and I decided that day that it would be the perfect spot to scatter Max’s ashes. We were holding on to his ashes for over a year and it was starting to play on my mind. I hated that he was in this box in my cupboard. I wanted to set him free again.
This place felt right. It was natural. It had running water. Surrounded by greenery and mountains. It felt alive and we felt good there too. We thought it would be a good place to go back to one day, when Freya’s older and understands.
We went back the next day to scatter his ashes. We got in the freezing cold water and opened the box. Sheldon poured his ashes in to my hand and then did the same in to his hands. We let go of him in the running water and said our goodbyes and cried our tears.
It was so hard but it was something we needed to do. Our final goodbye to our boy.
It was Britt’s birthday on the 25th. This is one person who doesn’t really enjoy celebrating her birthday, so I was happy to hear she was having a small lunch gathering at a restaurant in Gateway to celebrate on Saturday. Happy birthday my friend. Glad we could celebrate together.
[Sorry about the blurry Instagram pics]
Was having a little browse online and stumbled across this pic of Cameron Diaz at the Grand Prix clutching on to her iPhone with the coolest cover ever. Had to Google and see that it’s a cover called Knucklecase. I love it so much. I need one. I want one. In gold. Thanks.
I never used to get Pinterest. I didn’t see the point. Until I created my first board to store all my pics of my dream kitchen. Well, did I get sucked in . . . I absolutely love it now. I go on every morning to see what new pics are on there, add on to all my different boards and before you know it, it’s 9am and I haven’t done any work yet! I call it research OK? I’m getting inspired. Leave me be.
Anyway, if you want to follow my boards, click on this link. I tried to create a Pinterest widget but it doesn’t work and I lost my temper. Officially over it.
Please go take a look at my friend, Shane Small’s, website showcasing all his artwork. This man is truly talented. I need a couple of these prints I think. They would look so good in my home.
We celebrated Freya’s first birthday on 18th February. We only wanted something small – direct family only. I’m so glad we did it this way too because Freya was actually so sick and wasn’t herself.
I got quite into decorating our place for her birthday though. This is what Pinterest does to people. You start obsessing over decorations! I could feel myself getting sucked in to the black hole I call Pinterest but then I stopped myself. It’s her FIRST birthday. She won’t have a clue. Save your energy for when she’s older. I’ve already created a ‘Kids – Party’ board on Pinterest so I’m ready for it.
I’ll upload some of the pics from my big camera tomorrow. These were quick snaps taken on my phone.
OK, Easter was a while ago but I’m now trawling through all my old pics, looking to see what I can write about. I will work forward eventually so just bear with me.
Mariza was here from Cape Town for a week over Easter time. Sam invited us over to her place for brunch on the Saturday. We took a drive there with Silas and Freya. Sam really outdid herself. Her breakfast was better than any restaurant breakfast I’ve had before.
We’ve had a lot of visitors from the UK recently who met Freya for the first time. Although all these visits were far too brief for my liking, I know what it’s like when you get back here on holiday, after being away for so long. Your family want you and all of you. You have so many friends and family to see that by the end of your holiday, you need another holiday.
It was so good to see you all my friends – just wish we could have had more time together.
Sorry about the grainy pics – taken on my phone.
It was so hot here a few weekends ago. We were lying on our verandah enjoying the cool breeze but it was still super hot. We don’t have a pool so I decided to use the next best thing for Freya – our cooler box. It was the perfect fit. It’s safe. She can’t fall over. She was cool as a cucumber and enjoyed splashing around in her makeshift pool.
